Director of Youth Education

Tammy Stone, Director of Youth Education

I am deeply honored to call Congregation Agudas Achim my home — both professionally and personally. For over two decades, I have watched this community grow and flourish, and I feel privileged every day to play a role in shaping the next generation of Jewish leaders.

As a lifelong educator, my passion has always been meeting students where they are — nurturing their curiosity, strengthening their Jewish identity, and helping them build meaningful connections to one another and to our shared heritage. I believe that Jewish education is not just something that happens in a classroom; it is something that is lived, experienced, and carried forward into the world.

My journey in education has taken many forms. Originally from New York, I joined CAARS as Director of Youth Education in 2023, bringing with me over twenty years of experience in both public and Jewish education. I have served as a teacher and department chair in public education, as well as a teacher in Jewish educational settings, including at Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh and at Austin Jewish Academy. I also served as Assistant Principal in Austin ISD including at McCallum High School. I hold an A.B. in Political Science from the University of Chicago, an M.A. in Political Theory from the University of Pennsylvania, and certifications in both teaching and school administration.

My commitment to Jewish education has taken me beyond the classroom as well. I have studied in Israel on a Senior Educator Learning Fellowship at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, and I am proud to be a member of Cohort 12 of the Mandel Teacher Educator Institute. I look forward to continuing my learning this summer at the Wellspring Summit for Educators at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem.

On a personal note, my husband Peter Stone, Head of the UT Austin School of Computing and Chief Scientist of Sony AI, and I have been part of the Austin community since 2002 — with CAA as our beloved Jewish home ever since. We are the proud parents of three grown children — Jasmine, Isaac, and Raphael — all CAARS alumni who are currently pursuing doctoral degrees in North America. They are my greatest source of Jewish nachas!

I look forward to continuing to learn and grow together with our wonderful Congregation Agudas Achim community.
