Dr. Raben Appreciation Weekend

harvey headshot editedJoin us for the Harvey Raben Appreciation Shabbat honoring Dr. Raben for his many years of service as CAA’s Director of Congregational Learning, featuring scholars-in-residence Rabbi Cherie Koller-Fox and Dr. Everett Fox.

For 10 years, Harvey has led both adult education and K-12 religious school programs, spearheaded the development of two Agudas satellites—one north, one south, planned and led religious services, and developed the Tikkun Leil Shavuot night of study.

The scholars-in-residence will speak at Friday night & Saturday Shabbat services as well as Tikkun Leil Shavuot.

Friday June 7
  • 6:00 p.m. – Shabbat Dinner.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Adults $30; children under 13, $13; under 4, free. RSVP required. Register below.
  • 7:00 p.m. – Kabbalat Shabbat services in the Sanctuary with D’var Torah from Rabbi Cherie Koller-Fox.
  • Sponsored Oneg Shabbat following services. All are welcomed.
Saturday June 8
  • 8:30 a.m. – Shabbat Limud
  • 9:45 a.m. – Shabbat services with D’var Torah from Professor Everett Fox
  • Sponsored Kiddush lunch following services. All are welcomed.
  • 8:00 p.m. – Tikkun Leil Shavuot begins with sessions from Everett Fox and Cherie Koller-Fox, among others.

Guest Speakers

Rabbi Cherie Koller-Fox was ordained by the Academy for Jewish Religion, a pluralistic Jewish seminary in New York where she later served as President.  She is rabbi emeritus of Congregation Eitz Chayim of Cambridge, MA and  served as a chaplain in hospitals and nursing homes. She is a founder of  the Coalition for the Advancement of Jewish Education (CAJE). Ten years ago, she founded NewCAJE–an organization that provides professional development, advocacy, networking, and an annual conference for people from all denominations and job descriptions in Jewish education. She currently serves as President of NewCAJE.

Professor Everett Fox is currently the Allen M. Glick Professor of Judaic and Biblical Studies and director of the program in Jewish Studies at Clark University. He is best known as the acclaimed translator of the Shocken Bible series including The Five Books of Moses and The Early Prophets. He also served as an advisor to the Dreamworks film The Prince of Egypt.
