PARTICIPANT BIOGRAPHIES

Maccabeats—Originally formed in 2007 as Yeshiva University’s student vocal group, the Maccabeats have recently emerged as both Jewish music and a cappella phenomena,  with a large fanbase, more than 20 million views on YouTube, numerous TV appearances, and proven success with four albums.

Lisa Loeb—The singer/songwriter started her career with the platinum-selling number 1 hit song, “Stay (I Missed You)” from the film Reality Bites. Over the past decade she has written 7 children’s books and albums and co-wrote the music and lyrics for an off-Broadway musical about summer camps based. Ms. Loeb will perform a short set and participate in the panel discussion.

Rabbi Susan Silverman—The sister of comedian Sarah Silverman, Rabbi Silverman now lives in Jerusalem where her work includes advocating for liberal Judaism and promoting adoption. She is on the Board of Directors of Women of the Wall, on the International Council of The New Israel Fund and the Founding Director of Second Nurture: Every Child Deserves a Family – And a Community.

Hadassah Lieberman—Mrs. Lieberman, wife of Sen. Joe Lieberman, has spent three decades advocating for Israel and a variety of Jewish causes. She will discuss the importance of instilling Jewish values in our children, the role of Judaism in her life, and the necessity of active participation in Jewish communal activities. Her father and first husband were both rabbis.

Dana Bash—Ms. Bash is CNN’s chief political correspondent and will moderate the panel discussion. Bash was born to a Reform Jewish family. Her father was the senior broadcast producer for Good Morning America. Her mother is an author and educator in Jewish studies. She speaks about being a Jewish woman in media and politics.

Jen Taylor Friedman—Jen is a self-described, egalitarian, feminist, Jewish scribe and scholar. She is known for having created Tefillin Barbie, and notable for being the first woman in modern times to have written a sefer Torah. We are privileged to have her as the Soferet for the new Torah we will be dedicating this weekend.
